or two.
or three.
I could go on all day. I'll stop here for now with the pictures..
So Saturday was the Lesbian and Gay Mardi Gras Parade Festival in Sydney, which apparently is a HUGE deal here. As if I couldn't tell by the hundreds of thousands of people at the parade. I imagine it to be New Orleans Mardi Gras on steroids. Not that I have ever been to a NOLA Mardi Gras, but I think I am more than prepared after this. Just absolutely ridiculous and indescribable. Oxford Street was completely blocked off for the parade. It was pouring down rain and music was blasting and people were walking in the middle of the street dancing... Just one enormous party. Bars were packed with people looking for a dry place to watch the parade. People were on balconies screaming and cheering. Restaurants were closed, so vendors would set up along the streets selling food. We found a thai stand selling take away pad thai for $6, so we scarfed that down half way through the parade. People were wearing absurd outfits-neon, wings, glitter, half-naked bodies, colorful wigs, guys in heels, you name it. It was such an experience. We made friends with tons of Aussies in the crowds and watched the parade for hours. A few of us decided the parade in itself was such an overwhelming experience that we were ready to head home after instead of going out to the after parties-probably would have been more fun if you were gay, just sayin. Our fabulous friend Eric decided to stay behind though, and I believe he had the time of his life (see below). I will say Australia seems to be generally much more liberal, compared to, let's say, Texas. Some of our new Aussie friends said it is a very gay friendly place to live. Mardi Gras is definitely one of those nights I will not forgot-a true Australian experience.
Okay, I lied. A few more pictures... some of my personal favorite costume winners from the crowd.
